My second favourite celebration in the Catholic Church is upon us. Lent. Every year, I give up meat but I wanted to do something more this year. Social media plays a huge role in the lives of an individual living in the 21st century; to the point that it can even be argued that it is starting to govern us. So what better way to really sacrifice something that to give up social media for 40 days…
What?! Are you crazy?!
There’s no way you are going to be able to do this!
The first two days were tough. As i woke up the following day and to my disbelief, the first thing I did was reach for my phone. This is a slightly worrying trait that you can find in alcohol addiction so it is no surprise to say that I am a little bit addicted to social media.
It has become a lot easier to refrain myself from being tempted to use it. My friends keep talking about the funny memes that they have found and the videos that had them in stitches and I talk about the odd films and shows I watch which have been archived in the depths of YouTube.
What is even harder is the fact that whenever I get together with my friends and whenever there is a long silence, the appearance of phones and the endless scrolling through Instagram and Facebook occurs. But after some stern words from me, they are trying their best to refrain from doing this.
Anyway, I hope you all have a great Lent and I will still be blogging during this period so keep coming back!
