I have finally arrived at my destination. It has been one of the longest journeys I have ever made but it has definitely been worth it. I have not had a chance to take in what Brisbane has to offer just yet as I arrived at approximately 5am on Sunday. However, so far I have met some extremely friendly Australians which has definitely started the trip off to a positive start.
Today was spent unpacking everything and catching up with the family. I am looking forward to starting my placement tomorrow, however I would not complain if I was starting a day later, as it would have been nice to have one more day off. Luckily, I do not have to start my day until 10:30am so I can have a bit more of a lie-in. But, the hospital is around a 45 minute bus ride away so it will be quite an adventure trying to get to where I need to be on time.
I am hoping that they are not expecting me to start a full day of placement tomorrow but I am really excited to see how different obstetrics and gynaecology is in Australia when compared to the UK. It will also be interesting to meet some of the medical students from the University of Queensland and see how different the course is.
It is supposedly meant to be winter in Brisbane but it is around 27 degrees today so I think I could get used to winter over here…
